What We Offer
Masonry expertise for every chimney and fireplace need — repair, restore, or build from scratch.
Crumbling mortar joints allow water to penetrate your chimney's masonry, accelerating deterioration through freeze-thaw cycles. We remove deteriorated mortar to the required depth and replace it with properly matched mortar — restoring structural integrity and water resistance before serious damage sets in.
When repointing isn't enough, we execute full or partial chimney rebuilds using matching brick or stone. Every rebuild is properly flashed at the roofline and capped correctly — so the rebuilt section performs as well as the original, or better.
A cracked or missing chimney crown is one of the most common causes of water damage in New England homes. We form and pour new crowns with a proper drip edge to shed water away from the masonry, and install stainless or galvanized caps to keep rain, birds, and debris out of the flue.
Damaged or undersized flue liners are a safety hazard and a major cause of poor draft and smoke rollout. We install properly sized stainless steel liners that meet current code requirements, improve draw performance, and protect the surrounding masonry from corrosive flue gases.
From brick to fieldstone to stacked Pennsylvania slate, we design and build custom masonry fireplaces that become the defining feature of your home. Every firebox is sized and proportioned correctly for proper draft — not just to look good, but to function cleanly and safely for generations.
Chimney flashing failures account for a large share of roof-related water intrusion in Greater Boston homes. We remove failed flashing, waterproof the masonry, and install properly stepped and counter-flashed assemblies sealed with elastomeric sealant — stopping leaks at the source.
Our Process
From the first call to the final inspection — here's exactly what to expect when you work with FXL.
We come to your property, assess the chimney from base to cap, and identify any structural or waterproofing issues — at no cost, with no obligation to move forward.
You receive a clear, itemized written estimate explaining exactly what needs to be done, why, and at what cost — before any work begins.
Our masonry crew handles the full scope — repointing, rebuilding, lining, or custom fireplace construction — using materials matched to your existing masonry.
We walk through the finished work with you and confirm everything is structurally sound, properly sealed, and working correctly before we leave the job site.
Why Choose FXL
Chimneys and fireplaces have been at the core of FXL's work for over 20 years.
Chimneys and fireplaces are our core trade — not a side service picked up by a general contractor to fill a schedule.
Every chimney job is covered by our full Massachusetts contractor license #210057 and comprehensive liability insurance.
20 years repairing chimneys damaged by nor'easters, ice dams, and the freeze-thaw cycles that destroy lesser masonry.
